New Minimum Passing Scores For The USMLE
The Deemed minimum passing scores for the United States Medical Licensure Examination (USMLE) Steps change periodically. This typically occurs when changes are made to a given Step. Examples of such changes include changes in the format of the examination and with the scoring of the test. When upcoming changes are being made, notifications are sent out months in advance from the test makers to warn test-takers of when the change will become effective. Rather than be surprised by seeing these types of changes pop up, an easy way to track this is to join our Facebook group where I personally update current changes to the test. This will allow you to plan on either taking your examination before the changes occur or make an educated decision on taking it after. This enables you to be fully informed of the new changes and thereby new passing scores so that you can study appropriately.
Current Stats:
Currently the minimum passing scores for the USMLE Steps are as follows:
USMLE Step 1 – 192
USMLE Step 2 Clinical Knowledge – 209
USMLE Step 3 – 190
Please be advised of these scores, and aim to score higher than these on your practice examinations to ensure you will pass your actual test. Residency programs look for first-time passing scores on your USMLE transcript. So, study strategically and hard to make sure you score at least the minimum pass score on your board exam.
