The USMLE and Disabilities

The United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) is a four-part examination for medical students and doctors to pass in order to practice medicine in the United States. There are numerous applicants who need special assistance with taking their examinations. This can include anything from special seating to extended timing for their USMLE Step.

If you have been diagnosed with a disability, you must first get your diagnosis in writing. If your diagnosis is listed under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), submit your required doctor’s letter and examination application to request your testing accommodation.

Not all requests are approved, so be prepared to take your examination without any special accommodations. Do not assume acceptance and enter the testing center without prior approval for your special circumstance. You will not be granted approval at the testing center. To stay abreast with pertinent information follow us here.

The USMLE tries to accommodate as many applicants as they deem as necessary, so if you do not agree with the decision given, you can appeal or reapply for testing with special accommodations.
