The USMLE Master System was founded by Dr. Adrienne Hicks. She started this online review program because she knows first-hand the struggles medical students endure in order to study and pass the Steps of the United States Medical Licensing Examination. She had her own obstacles to overcome with Steps 1 and 2 Clinical Knowledge, which forced her to attend multiple review programs, either as a part of her medical school curriculum or at national review programs throughout the United States. What she learned throughout her studies is that the USMLE does not ask you everything that you have learned throughout medical school, but it focuses on specific topics within each medical specialty. How this program is different from all other review programs is that it does not re-teach students medical school all over again but reviews the high-yield topics needed to pass the USMLE.
The USMLE Master System prepares medical students for these crucial examinations by asking USMLE-style questions to test their knowledge during and after they have completely reviewed every topic. Dr. Hicks believes it is not how much you know but what you know well and how well you use it. She used various review books and videos, as well as worked with test-testing counselors to help her pass her USMLE Steps 2 Clinical Skills and 3 on her first attempts. These key ingredients allowed Dr. Hicks to compose her "15 Steps to Pass the USMLE", as well as daily, weekly, and monthly schedules needed to organize the online course, questions, drills, and review sessions.
Dr. Hicks knows there needs to be a component where students have to ask questions to clarify topics they do not understand and/or topics they think they understand until they do questions and get them wrong. So she incorporated a segment into the review program where students can either email questions to her directly or set up times for a video chat, where students can ask her questions face-to-face and have her to clearly explain any confusing topics, so students can perform at their best capabilities. All these components are needed to pass each of the Steps of the USMLE.
